Position Overview

The Maintenance Gardener is responsible for maintaining the school buildings, grounds, gardens, and outdoor facilities to ensure they are safe, functional, and visually appealing. You will work closely with the Facilities Manager to complete a wide range of maintenance tasks while ensuring compliance with all occupational health and safety (OH&S) standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain school buildings, ground areas, and outdoor facilities using a variety of landscaping and general maintenance skills as directed.

• Provide general maintenance to school buildings and classrooms, including small repair and upkeep tasks as directed.

• Maintain lawns and other grassed areas throughout the school grounds.

• Maintain existing garden beds and develop new garden beds in accordance with school plans.

• Ensure all garden equipment is maintained and serviced appropriately.

• Maintain accurate online data records of servicing, maintenance tasks, and work completed.

• Understand and comply with all OH&S regulations and ensure safe work practices at all times.

• Complete relevant professional development and training as required.

• Undertake other duties and responsibilities within the scope of the role as requested by the Principal or Business Manager.

• Contribute positively as an effective member of the school team, supporting the upkeep and improvement of the school’s buildings and grounds.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, or related trades.

• Basic maintenance and repair skills for small building and classroom tasks.

• Strong knowledge of lawn care, planting, pruning, and landscaping techniques.

• Ability to maintain and service garden equipment.

• Familiarity with OH&S requirements and commitment to safe work practices.

• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and contractors.

• Reliable, flexible, and able to work within tight timelines.

• Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.
