As a Vehicle Spray Painter, you will prepare and repair vehicle panels, including fixing dents and sanding surfaces to ensure a smooth finish. You will mask areas to prevent overspray, accurately match and mix paint colours, and apply primer, basecoat, and clearcoat using spray equipment in a controlled environment. The role includes sanding between coats, performing touch-ups, polishing for a seamless finish, removing masking materials, and completing final waxing. You may also create custom graphics and apply rust-proofing and protective treatments to extend vehicle lifespan.

Benefits

We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support your professional and personal wellbeing. Our salary packaging options and superannuation allow you to maximise your take-home pay through tax-effective arrangements, while superannuation contributions help you build long-term financial security for retirement. We recognise and reward high performance through structured recognition programs, performance bonuses, and career advancement opportunities. In addition, we provide dedicated visa support for eligible candidates.

Task & responsibilities

  •    Preparing vehicle panels by repairing dents, scratches, and uneven surfaces to achieve a smooth finish before painting.

   •    Sanding surfaces by hand and using power tools to remove old paint, smooth fillers, and ensure proper adhesion for new coatings.

   •    Masking areas not requiring paint using tape, plastic, and paper to protect glass, trims, and surrounding components from overspray.

   •    Accurately matching and mixing paint colours using manual methods, computerised systems, or selecting suitable pre-mixed paints to match original finishes.

   •    Applying primer, basecoat, and clearcoat with spray equipment in a controlled environment, ensuring consistent coverage and correct curing, including sanding between coats for a high-quality result.

   •    Performing touch-ups on minor imperfections and polishing surfaces to restore shine and ensure seamless blending with existing paintwork.

   •    Carefully removing masking materials after painting and completing final waxing and polishing to enhance appearance and protect the finish.

   •    Creating and painting custom signage, graphics, or artwork on vehicle exteriors according to client specifications or design plans.

   •    Applying rust-proofing and protective chemical treatments to underbodies and other susceptible areas to prolong vehicle lifespan.

Qualification & experience

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in a relevant trade qualification, or an overseas equivalent.
  • A minimum of two to three (2-3) years’ relevant industry experience.
  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated experience as a Vehicle Painter.
  • Prior experience within a body shop or automotive repair workshop.
  • High level of attention to detail with strong precision skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive paints, primers, and clear coats.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and follow detailed instructions accurately.
